About Theratea
Where healing begins with connection
"I am because we are"
The Ubuntu Philosophy
Ubuntu is a profound African philosophy that recognises the fundamental interconnectedness of all people. It teaches us that our humanity is bound up in the humanity of others — that we cannot be truly well in isolation.
At Theratea, Ubuntu isn't just a concept; it's the foundation of our therapeutic approach. We believe that healing happens within relationships, and that the counselling space should reflect the warmth, respect, and communal care that Ubuntu embodies.
Like sharing a cup of tea with a trusted friend, our sessions create a space of genuine connection. We honour your story, your culture, and your unique path, recognising that every person carries wisdom within themselves.

Our Counselling Approaches
Person-Centred Counselling
Developed by Carl Rogers, person-centred counselling places you at the centre of the therapeutic process. We provide a non-judgmental, empathetic environment built on unconditional positive regard, genuineness, and deep empathic understanding. This approach trusts in your innate ability to find your own solutions when given the right conditions for growth.
Cognitive Behavioural Counselling (CBC)
CBC is a structured, evidence-based approach that helps you identify and change unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviours. By understanding the connection between thoughts, emotions, and actions, you develop practical coping strategies for managing anxiety, depression, stress, and other challenges. CBC empowers you with tools you can use long after counselling ends.
Solution-Focused Brief Counselling (SFBC)
SFBC is a goal-oriented approach that focuses on solutions rather than problems. Instead of analysing what went wrong, we explore what's already working and how to build on your existing strengths. Using techniques like the miracle question and scaling, SFBC helps you envision and move toward your preferred future efficiently.
Creative & Expressive Activities
Creative and expressive activities use art, music, movement, and other forms of creative expression as therapeutic tools. These approaches can be especially powerful when words feel insufficient, helping you process complex emotions, reduce stress, and gain new perspectives on your experiences. They're suitable for adults and young people alike.
Blended Counselling Techniques
Recognising that no single approach fits everyone, we often integrate techniques from multiple modalities to create a personalised therapeutic experience. This flexible, client-responsive approach allows us to draw from the best of each method — adapting session by session to what serves you most effectively on your unique healing journey.
